2018 Run for the Hills Event, Sunday, October 7th, 2018
On a crisp fall day with a dusting of new snow on the ground, Menihek Nordic hosted the 13th annual Run for the Hills, it did not snow and the sun peeped out for a little while during the event.
Close to 80 people registered for the Event, including participants that came from Quebec, and Churchill Falls, and the rest from Labrador West.
There was great excitement in the air at the start line at 1 pm, hard to hold the kids back, and then they were off and running. The trail was excellent, the golden fall colors and the falling leaves covering the new snow on the trail making it exceptionally pretty. Adults did 6.5 km, teenage boys & girls 3 k, youth up to 12 years did 2 km and recreational did 2 km or 3 km. Enjoyment was on the faces of all the participants as they approached the finish line. A friend once said: “You cannot be at the finish line if you are not at the starting line.”
A social was held after at the chalet with hot and healthy foods and beverages enjoyed by all. Prize draws were held and medals were presented to all youth.
Thank you to all our volunteers and organizations, especially the Labrador West Search and Rescue who were out in full force ,front and center showcasing their new equipment, and the Ham Radio Club for the great support, the organizing committee and our sponsors for another great community event hosted by Menihek Nordic Ski Club.
